Masquerade Costume

Hear, ye. Hear, ye. The Queen (That would be me) has announced the masquerade ball. Everyone look for the best masquerade costumes, post haste and be ready for a night of fun and of mystery. A word of warning though: back off the copper colored ball gown- that belongs to the queen!

There are many beautiful masquerade costumes that can be selected, from the rich and opulent gowns of the Baroness or Countessa to the more down to earth looks of the peasant girl, the gypsy and the tavern wench. (Every good party needs at least one saucy minx to make the blood rise.) Choose the look that you want to portray and then you own that look, baby, make it your own.

Starting with the Ladies

The most fancy and fanciful of the masquerade costumes belong to the ladies. Long, floor sweeping gowns of taffeta, faux silk and velveteen crinkle and swish as you dance and make your way through the crowd. Crinolines not only add to the sound effects of your very fancy dress but hold it out. (Trust the queen on this one, you do not want to have to resort to a hoop or anything else.) Make sure that you choose the color that will suit you the best and remember a few things about these dresses:

  •   These dresses are perfect for faking an hour glass shape and flatter practically every figure.
  •   Don’t worry that someone else will have your dress, you can separate yourself with your accessories.
  •   Don’t neglect the right hair style, shoes and jewels to complete your look.

And Now, the Not so Ladylike Gals

Still beautiful and still fun to wear, the tavern wench and peasant girls are a great choice for masquerade costumes for those who like to flash a little more flesh and have a little more, shall we say, spirit? Again, these are flattering to most figures and the best of them still have exquisite materials that set them apart.

No matter what you choose as your favorite masquerade costumes, make sure that you choose one that fits well and opt for all of the right accessories. After all the Baroness de Chocolate would never show up with a bunch of plastic bangles on her royal arm- that is really something more for the Countessa de Madonnawannabe.
