Cinderella, Dressed In Yella Went to Town to Kiss a Fella
Oh, I do so love an old nursery rhyme! I also love the old fairy tales, especially this one. In the original version, Cinderella’s dainty shoe was made of fur which is kind of gross, so the story got glammed up and the fur clodhopper got switched to a beautiful, dainty, glass slipper. As far as I personally know, Miss Cinderella never wore a yellow dress, but you know the rhyme doesn’t have the same panache without it. Whether you are two or fifty two, dressing as everyone’s favorite handmaiden turned princess is a dream come true. More than a few women have walked down the aisle as Cinderella and more than a few little girls have snuck their beautiful costume under their pajamas tonight, again.
If you can, by all means go high end for this costume- the better made costumes will simply take your breath away with their exquisite attention to detail. The dress is beautiful blue with overlay of lace and gold shot thread to catch the light and dazzle everyone who gets to see it. The best cinderella costumes come with a delicate black choker style necklace, however you can add your own using a length of velvet ribbon to custom make your own. Add a beautiful cameo and you are set to be Cinderella.
Once she is transformed into her ball gown, Cinderella’s hair is piled on top of her head in a romantic updo, however if you can find one, you can easily recreate the exact look with a wig. If you would prefer, you can wear your hair down, but it will take away some of the effect. Up or down, your hair should be topped off with a glittering, twinkling tiara. If you have them, dangly diamond earrings are also a sweet and royal touch to your Cinderella costume. Do not over do the makeup because after all, Cinderella is just a sweet and innocent girl. Make sure that you do have rosy pink lips for kissing your Prince Charming, but do so before midnight or he might turn into a rat! You never know what your own Fairy Godmother has cooked up for you.
Your shoes should be as dainty and ethereal as possible. Some costume shops have “glass” slippers and if you can find them, then you are in luck. If not, then wear the next best thing with barely there strappy pumps or crystal heels. Just be certain that you do not leave one behind, unless you want the prince to have to come looking for you!
