Dr Suess: The Grinch and The Cat In The Hat

Let your inner child out this Halloween with Dr Suess and his whimsical characters, the Grinch and the Cat in the Hat. No matter which character you choose, you will have a heartwarming connection to childhood. Dr. Suess made many a happy memory for the holidays and year round and wearing these costumes can help you to relive them.

The Cat in the Hat

The Dr. Suess character was introduced to children the world over in the colorful book that quickly became a cherished classic. Then an animated classic brought the cat to life along with his trouble making friends, Thing One and Thing Two. Finally, a life action movie was made, giving the character even more depth and introducing a while new group of children to the beloved story. To recreate the look for your Halloween party or event- you have to make a choice first. Are you going to be the Cat in the Hat or are you going to be a Thing instead? The Cat in the Hat costume comes in a number of varieties. The best of course is the full cat costume, complete with the striped hat, bow tie and perfectly applied cat makeup. A cat mask is also an option. For those who are going with a little more budget priced costume, they should go with the hat, bowtie and make up worn with black and white clothing. Thing One and Thing Two are identical in appearance except for the number on the front of their outfit. For the most realistic look, the costume should have a full, one piece leotard and the wild green wig that makes the things stand out. Full white face make up will make you look even more Thingy.

The Grinch

Everyone’s favorite Grinch was once upon a time a classic animated show that featured one of the best, Dr. Suess themes ever written. Legendary actor, Boris Karloff provided the narration and the voice of the Grinch giving this Christmas classic enough of a creepy edge to make it perfect for Halloween as well. However, the popularity of the Grinch costume did not become evident until Jim Carrey brought his own take to the character in the live action version. The costume is head to toe, Grinchy green and the best costume versions are furry and cover from head to ankle. (There are versions that also cover the feet, however these may be difficult to walk in and may make you feel grinchy.) Whichever costume you choose, make sure that you have the right facial makeup. Speaking in rhymes for the whole night is entirely up to you.
