What to do With Baby Halloween Costumes after Halloween

Baby Halloween Costumes

Contrary to popular belief, the Queen of Halloween loves little children. There is something about the sticky little land monsters that makes the Queen go all maternal. Of course, the rule in the kingdom is simple: it is not actually Halloween until she has made a little one cry. You can love the little boogers and scare the snicker doodles out of them at the same time. But, the Queen has an extra special soft spot in her black little heart for the really little bitties- and at Halloween they can really kick up the ooh and aah factor. Precious little baby Halloween costumes are adorable, but you know that they will grow out of them before the last of the Reese cups are culled from the bowl, so what can you possibly do with baby Halloween costumes after that single wearing is over and done with? The Queen, smart chick that she is, has several suggestions for her loyal subjects.

1. Sell them and make a few bucks.

No matter where you live, you are certainly near a thrift store, a consignment shop or other second hand place that will allow you to bring your items down and sell them. There are many of these types of places that specialize in children’s and infants clothing especially. You get a little bit of cash, someone else gets your adorable and slightly used item at a great price, everyone is thrilled to death.  If you are unfortunate enough not to be near such a place, you could always have a yard sale or if all else fails, show your sister in law how you really feel about her by making her pay for it next year.

2. Hand them down within your inner circle.

Most families hand clothes down from sister to sister, brother to brother and so on- and doing so keeps the free clothing cycle going. Even if you would never let your child wear that dog a slime green sweater any other day of the year, you could have the basis of a great Halloween costume for the older kids and everyone loves to get those adorable baby Halloween costumes mixed in with the bag of stuff that makes you wonder if you were really adopted after all.

3. Turn them into decorations for next Halloween.

If you are a crafty sort of person, take the adorable baby Halloween costume, stuff it with your choice of filling material and then stitch it closed. Add a little baby doll face and a tuft of soft hair and there you go. If you are like the Queen and filled with good ideas but not the domestic skills to bring them to life, grab a baby doll or stuff animal and dress them up.

4. Start measuring the family pet.

One year, the Queen lucked into several of the most adorable Halloween costumes for the Lindzerstein monster that lurks throughout her kingdom. (Other people who don’t really know any better, call her Lindsay.) The Queen spent a merry week putting the costumes on her little subject and then realized that by the following year they would be over and done with. (The Queen was also thrilled that none of these costumes had feet in them because in addition to being referred to as Lindzerstein, the child is also called “Big Foot.” One day while dressing the surprisingly compliant baby the Queen noticed that the dog looked left out and called her over. A few grunting and groaning moments later, every one had a costume on and the Queen went happily about her day.

5. Put them on a hanger and hang them down a hallway as trip down Halloween lane.

The Queen did not get crowned as such for nothing, and I got to admit I am up near twenty or more costumes. They are all hung as part of my Halloween décor when they are not in use, including baby Halloween costumes, pet costumes and other assorted wear. The Queen even has Halloween socks and hair doodles, but that is another story altogether.
