Harry Potter Halloween Costumes: For the Little Wizard in All of Us

If you have never seen a Harry Potter movie or read one of the books, you are in very rare numbers, my friend. If you have never heard of Harry Potter, please have a nearby friend poke you with a stick, you may be dead. For the fans though, the chance to dress up in Harry Potter Halloween costumes and lose ourselves in the characters even for the night is magic in and of itself. There are no age limits to the Harry “magic”, and while it might be disconcerting to see a 45 year old man dressed as Harry Potter, the costume does come in adult sizes, so it is possible. So, let’s look at some of the costumes and of course, the great costume accessories that bring the Harry Potter Halloween costume to vivid life.
The Harry in the Harry Potter Halloween costume collection:
The main man; the big star: Harry Potter. The costume itself is available in both children’s and adult sizes (as mentioned above). The two main “Harry” choices are the Gryfindor robe or the Quidditch robe. Both are fairly easy to wear over regular clothes, although a white dress shirt and black dress shoes do look the best with it. While the robe may seem basic, to the true Harry Potter fan it is just the start of something special because it is truly the accessories that make the look. First, add the Harry Potter glasses, (child sized, clear lenses, wire rims) and then the school tie. And now the fun part, which works for either of the Harry Potter Halloween costume choices as well as for Hermione: the magic wand. And not just any magic wand will do either; you have to have the officially licensed Harry Potter magic wand because really, what good is a wand without lights and sound?
Someone Gets to be the Bad Guy in this Mix:
So, if everyone gets to wear the Harry Potter Halloween costume, who gets to be the bad guy? Oh, come on! Someone has to do it. First, there is the Dementor costume, a perfectly creepy little creature who is all black and featureless. Or, the other choice here is the Slytherin robe- for those who are just too in touch with their inner serpent.
And, of course, we end with a big AWWW…
Finally, there are the little bitties who just know they are going to get stuck dressed as a beagle or some such tripe when all they want in their little toddler hearts is to wear a Harry Potter Halloween costume like big sister or brother. I propose a compromise: Hedwig the Owl, Harry’s wise friend. Cute and furry enough to please your mommy and still a Harry Potter Halloween costume. Everyone wins. Okay, altogether now: awwww!
