We’re Off to See the Wizard, and Party “Til the Flying Monkeys Show Up
The Wizard of Oz is an enduring classic for children of all ages. It is also one of the best starting points for finding the right Halloween costume for adults, especially those who still are in daily contact with their inner child. If this sounds like you, then read on for tips for choosing the right Wizard of Oz Halloween costume for you and your own personality.
The Good Guys: Dorothy, Glenda and the Boys
Dorothy is one of the cutest Halloween costumes ever- especially if you happen to be a dark haired, fresh faced Judy Garland look alike. Even if you are not, the costume is a good choice because who does not look adorable in a blue and white gingham checked dress and pigtails? Make sure that the costume you choose has the little picnic basket ( you have to have something to carry candy and lip gloss in, even if you are an adult.) Do not give in to the urge to make your little dog dress up as Toto and ride around in the basket- go with a stuffed version instead. The best thing about the Dorothy, Wizard of Oz costume? Two words: ruby slippers!
Glenda, also known as the Good Witch of the North arrives in Munchkin Land in a glistening pink bubble. Okay, so you are coming in a salmon color Toyota, but you can still rock this most fantastic of Wizard of Oz Halloween costumes. Because the Glenda costume is a little showy, it might be best for those who don’t mind being the center of attention. Think about it, a great big, pink and glittering overlay dress, fabulous tiara and wand, what’s not to love?
The Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion are the choices for your date for the evening ladies, all of them very good choices. In the movie it almost seemed that the Scarecrow had the edge, but you can draw your own conclusions. Of these three adult, Wizard of Oz Halloween costumes the Scarecrow might win for both comfort and cuteness.
The Bad Guys: The Witch and those Horrid Monkeys
Okay, someone has to be a bad guy or where is the fun? The Wicked Witch of the West was not just bad, she was a witch with a title, and she wore it full bore. From the traditional pointy witch hat to her full length black witch hat, this was one sister who oozed evil out of every mean, green pore.
And, no bad guy can be complete without henchmen, or in this case, henchmonkeys. The nasty little flying monkeys would make a great costume- especially for those people who really do want to spend the entire evening making every body angry.
There you have it, the adult Wizard of Oz Halloween costumes, the good, the bad and the annoying. Pick your poison, so to speak and have a good time.
