How Many Superheroes Can You Think of?

Published by at 1:41 pm under Superhero Costumes

Superhero CostumeI have a friend who used to skip class so that he could go home and watch old Batman reruns. He was then, is now and always will be an agent of the Bat. For him, there is only one superhero, period.  I have another friend who grew up with Spiderman everything, everywhere. His entire room was Spidery from top to bottom. Not a single product was left un-bought. For him, there was only one superhero: Spiderman. Being something of an anomaly, I never had a single superhero that captured my heart so I can actually name more than a few.

I have the feeling that the fewer superheroes that you can name, the more likely it is that you were obsessed by one or another, even if you never made it really obvious. Even if your room was not decked out with that hero’s likeness or you never dressed like or quoted him or her, it was there, in your secret heart of hearts, your obsessive love.

The Obvious Choices

In addition to Batman and Spiderman, the superhero that all others are usually measured by is Superman. Hanging with Batman and Superman at the Justice League headquarters are the other superheroes that belong in the category as obvious: the Flash, the Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl. Other obvious superheroes include Captain America and Aqua Man.

The Strange Ones

In addition to those superheroes, there are others that fit the title but seem kind of a strange fit. For instance, the Hulk- technically a superhero, he is nothing more than a guy who has a problem with his temper. Others include the X-Men- a collection of mutant freaks that have unique powers. While they often do heroic actions, it is often a struggle for them to choose to do the right thing, rather than being second nature for them.

Don’t Forget Girl Power

Nearly all of the superheroes had a female counterpart, sometimes a unique female heroine that worked alongside them, sometimes just the female version of the superhero himself. She Hulk? Just a hulk with boobs. But, there are others that are all for themselves- like Wonder Woman who handled herself quite nicely without any male superhero help. The Bionic Woman, Aquagirl and Elektra are also fabulous superheroes to choose from. Other superheroes that just also happen to be female include the Hawkgirl, and the female mutants from the X-Men.

Other Choices

How about the Incredibles, an entire family of superheroes? How about the superheroes that you come up with in your own head or for your own family? After all, you are not limited to just the superheroes that some person drew.
