Medieval Costumes – Six Costume Ideas for Men

Published by at 1:30 pm under Medieval Costumes

Medieval CostumesThere are several situations where you might need to find yourself a medieval costume. While women are busily scampering about in search of their queenly robes or trying to be the best tavern wench they can be, the men are staring at their feet, completely unsure of what is in store for them. Well, fellows, here are six costume ideas for you.

Costume One: It’s Good to be the King

There can be no debate that the King is the top costume choice. After all, the King is well, the King. At some Renaissance festivals, the men dressed in the king’s costumes got to come to the front of the lines and were often given free drinks or extra portions when they bought food. Your kingly robes and a nice crown are all that you need unless you want to go for the full costume. All hail the king!

Costume Two: Sir Lancelot

Lancelot, man of so many women’s dreams and the knight that all others model themselves after. This is a costume that can be something simple (tights, tunic, and sword) or more involved. If you are going with a group, make sure that you stand out from the other knights but don’t look better than the king.

Costume Three: A Knight in Shining Armor

This is a costume choice that you have to commit to. You can’t just kind of want to be a knight in shining armor. Either you are in or you are out. If you are in, make sure that the costume is one that you can move in and consider bringing it to wherever you are going and slipping into it once you arrive. There is something strange about driving as a knight. Quick: why couldn’t Lancelot drive after sundown? He suffered from poor knight vision.

Costume  Four: Sire! The Peasants are Revolting!

You said it, brother, they stink on ice. Okay, Mel Brooks aside, a peasant costume is also a good choice and lets you be messy in the process. If you spill mustard on yourself whenever you go out, then peasant might be the perfect choice. Your costume should be a bit too big and a big on the grungy side as well.

Costume Five: A Monk

The monk costume is very simple and might be way more comfortable than any of the other choices. Basically, it is a long brown robe with a rope belt around the waist. Easy, right?

Costume Six: The Executioner

Saved the best for last, right? The executioner costume can be either the white billowy shirt with blue or black leggings or black leather with no shirt at all. You can wear the full face hood- which makes you so frightening or you can skip it. You are the executioner! No one is going to argue with you!
