Spend any time on YouTube, and you will see a photo of a Supergirl that is really a very beautiful woman with a painted on costume rather than the actual costume. This may not be the right choice to wear to the PTA’s annual Halloween event, right? For young girls to women, the Supergirl costume is actually a great choice for a number of reasons.

The Supergirl costume sends a powerful message to developing young, female minds, reminding them that they can do anything that they want to do. They don’t have to wait for some man to come and rescue them; they can bloody well do it themselves. Why do little boys get to dress up in the superheroes and leave little girls nothing but sparkly princesses and such? Rubbish! Poppycock! Little girls can save themselves and they may even be able to swoop in and save the day for boys as well! While the costume is one of power and empowerment, it is also cute in the bargain. (Hey, you can kick some butt and still look adorable at the same time!)
Supergirl wears a costume that is similar to that of Superman’s, only she gets to wear a flouncy little skirt.

Many a young boy has had fantasies that started with his favorite gal pal in a superhero costume. There is no age limit for those fantasies, you know!
