Infant Costumes for Halloween
It is every newborn baby’s dream to have his peach fuzz hair slicked back and little driblets of fake blood dotted down his chin so he can be Babeula or something equally sinister. Okay, I am just kidding. Newborns and infants could really not care less about the whole Halloween hoopla, it is the proud parents who want to dress Baby up and parade him around. (It’s perfectly normal to want to show off the perfect version of yourself, after all- however don’t you think little baby Frankenstein bolts are overkill?) Most parents choose to go the cute and adorable route with their babies and toddlers which depending on the location might also be the warmest costumes as well.
Here are some tips for choosing the best infant and Toddler Halloween Costumes including some safety tips, and of course, some money saving hints that you might not have considered. Enjoy.
Safety Tips
1. Do not overdress baby, no matter how adorable the costume is. Overheating is dangerous for baby and can lead to dehydration. If it is too hot for you, it is just as hot for him.
2. No loose parts especially around baby or toddler faces and necks.
3. Makeup on baby, even if it is labeled for infant use can lead to allergic reactions, proceed with caution. (Test a small patch before you put it on and only use a small bit. Do not cover baby’s whole face.) Remember, the more allergies that you or your spouse have, the more likely baby will have one as well.
Adorable Toddler Costume Choices
1. Baby in a pea pod. Perfect for cooler climates, the pea pod costume is soft, fuzzy and most importantly easy for baby to wear- simply zip him into the one piece outfit and away you go. (Money saving bonus: in a pinch, this could double as outer wear after Halloween is over.)
2. Ladybug, butterfly and bumblebee. From infant to toddler, who could resist their chubby faced little one dressed as a red and black ladybug, yellow and black bumblebee or the multicolored butterfly? For infants, these are generally one piece outfits with small, attached wings. For toddlers may be one piece with accessories such as bigger wings and a hat/antennae combination. Again, these costumes may be able to be used as outer wear for infants but only if the wings can be removed. If not, the baby will not sit into his car seat correctly and will be uncomfortable as well.
3. Puppies, kitties, lions, tigers and bears. Oh, what is more adorable than happy kitties and chubby puppies playing around? How about when they are sweet, sleeping babies all dressed for Halloween? Again, use your best judgment for these infant costumes and pay careful attention to the temperature and your baby’s comfort level.
The best thing about toddler and Infant Costumes, besides being unbelievably cute is their simplicity: zip them up and away you go, ready to earn all of the oohs and ahhs you can possibly stand.
