Scary Halloween Makeup Ideas

Halloween MakeupThere are plenty of ways to get the right look for your Halloween costume, including either using a mask or using scary Halloween makeup ideas to accomplish them. The benefit of using makeup is that you are just so much freer and can be far more expressive with the end results. A mask is made to have one look or one expression and be done. Once that mask is made, it is made, the end. Makeup though allows your facial expressions to shine through and can enhance your own natural features.

Minimal Halloween Makeup Scare Tactics

If you don’t want to use full makeup, you can accentuate one aspect of your face instead. For instance, if you want to go as a vampire, you can darken your brows, throw in some fangs and you are fine. Women might choose to give themselves some bright red or dark purple lips in addition to slightly heavier eye make up and will still be scary. You don’t have to go over the top to get the right look.

Middle of the Road Halloween Makeup Scare Tactics

Halloween MakeupWhen you want to take the game a little farther, you can start with advanced makeup techniques that require only your own make up kit, or an inexpensive makeup Halloween makeup kit. Here are the steps to create a super spooky ghoul look for your face:  Start with a white base for the entire face. It is your choice between cream and a powder. Cream covers better but can sometimes cake up or sweat off. Next, add shadows in the natural curves and hollows of your face with a dark gray or black shadow. Pay careful attention to the areas of the lower cheeks, around your nose and eyes and just below the mouth so you look sunken in and gaunt. Finish off with gray or dark purple lipstick and small gray lines to indicate cracks.

Over the Top Halloween Makeup Effects

If you want to really go crazy, there are some over the top tips you can use. A little white glue, a handful of plain, cornflake cereal and you are ready to make some really nasty, scaly skin. You can also use little strips of toilet paper or paper toweling attached with a little bit of white glue. Both will come off fairly quickly without leaving any marks. Please be careful though and check for skin allergies before you apply this to your entire face.

There are other things you can use, including small accessories that can be attached to the face. These can include bolts for monsters, horns for devils and body parts or weapons that protrude through your face at jaunty angles.
